Basic Design Concept

The whole design is based on proven and well known working boats of the North West of the United States and Northern Europe; both are very ruff Areas where only the best designs could survive the harsh sea conditions.
This conditions has to be designed in a boat for unlimited world cruising and what I think a boat has to be constructed for.
Those new highly engineered Boats are not for me, because they are only highly engineered to be built the most economically and cheapest way to float.
Not for me.
In my mind was a boat what can survive anything what the sea can trough on it.

Also the boat has to be very economical to operate, easy to maintain and must have a huge range to reach far places under engine alone.

The most important factor is seaworthiness, comfort and at last the speed of the boat.

So I started to research and studying hundreds of proven boat designs and make a big list of all the best futures from each design.
This was then the base of my ultimate world cruiser, the best from the best combined in one design.
After about one thousand hours of intensive studying and researching the basics for PEDRO was laid out.
I used newest computer software to make all the basic calculations and drawings and spend again about one thousand hours to finish all the calculations and get the basic hull design on the screen.
It was a lot of work but every minute spend was worth it, the result was the optimum world cruiser and I could start building this baby.

PEDRO is not a speed boat, she is designed for a cruising speed of 5 knots, with a small (30HP) real marine engine what gives her a range of minimum 5000 nautical miles.

Every scantling was designed that she can withstand everything what the sea can trough on her, even floating stuff and ice should not be a problem for here.

In the case of engine failure, an emergency rig can be installed and will bring the crew safely to the next harbor.
But this emergency rig will probably never be used, because I have the most spare parts on board and this real marine engine is very taff built, I heard of engine from this brand to be known to run about one hundred thousand hours without any major problems.
This is totally unheard from the new engines, they are getting changed every fife thousand hours or so…….
This is not what we need out in the ocean, we need the real thing.

Big Water and diesel tanks make the boat autark for many months at sea.

As building material I choose the finest tropical hardwoods, Balau, Chengal and Ironwood.
The fastenings are galvanized boat nails for the hull planking, stainless steel bolts throughout.
For the laminated beams and frames I used AERODUX 500 and for all the rest I used Epoxy glues.
The outside hull is sheathed heavily with four layers of double biaxial glass 600g/m2 and Epoxy.
This will block the planking strips from moving too much, make the hull easy to maintain and absolutely watertight.
The inside of the hull is the beautiful bare wood oiled with a mixture of Tung oil and Pine oil.

No chemicals are used inside the boat !

The hull form allows also beaching the boat, what is very important in an emergency or in remote areas where no traveler lifts are available.

Anchor System:
1 x ROCNA –55 kg –with 80m chain 13 mm
1x Danforth 30 kg – 100m Nylon Line 24mm
1 x CQR 30 kg – 100m Nylon Line 24mm
1 x LUKE (fishermen) 35 kg

Manual Anchor winch, chain is on a drum on deck, very easy to use and totally reliable.
No smelly chain under deck.
Can be equipped with an motor if needed.
I prefer manual because it will never quit.
